Summary:The invention discloses boron silicates, aluminum silicates and phosphosilicates, how to make them, and processes for purifying DNA with them. The new composition is of the formula: wherein X is Silicon, Boron, Aluminum or Phosphorus, and R is independently OH or a monomer unit, n is 3 when X is Si and n is 2 when X is Boron, Aluminum, or Phosphorus, and repeating units of the composition comprising the formula: and compositions comprising the above monomer and repeating units thereof. Repeating units described above can include from about 2 up to infinity. Ranges include about 2 to about 100,000,000, and about 2 to about 100,000.
