Summary:A method and apparatus for measuring blood iodine concentration draws a continuous specimen of blood containing iodine from the left ventricle of the heart and exposes that specimen to a source of X-rays. The attentuated level of X-rays passing through the specimen is compared with the unobstructed level of X-rays to determine the concentration of iodine in the blood. The measurement is then corrected to account for the effects of dispersion caused by the travel of the specimen from the heart to the measurement zone.
