Summary:This invention comprises the use of a snuffer (1, 10) having an open-ended cylindrical hole (3) to extinguish cigarettes (7) and other rod-like smoking materials. Typically the snuffer (1, 10) is placed upright on a surface (6) with one of the open ends of the hole (3) against the surface (6) and then the burning end of the cigarette (7) is placed downwards into the other open end of the hole (3) in the snuffer (1, 10). The snuffer denies free flow of air and hence oxygen to the burning end of the cigarette and thus extinguishes it rapidly and completely without applying pressure to the cigarette (7).
