Process of testing the efficiency of the electromagnetic screening of a conductor, and appliance therefor

The process tests the quality of the electromagnetic screening of a conducting lead which consists of a shielded cable (1) with at least one conductor (10, 11) in this cable and a shielded connector (2, 3) at each end of this cable. The process involves injecting into the shielding (14, 25, 35) of t...

Summary:The process tests the quality of the electromagnetic screening of a conducting lead which consists of a shielded cable (1) with at least one conductor (10, 11) in this cable and a shielded connector (2, 3) at each end of this cable. The process involves injecting into the shielding (14, 25, 35) of the lead a transient perturbing signal Ip(t) of predetermined value and shape, and measuring the resultant signal (Vr(t), real) appearing on one of the cable conductors in response to the passage of the perturbing signal. The resultant signal is compared with a reference signal (Vr(t), ref) appearing on the conductor of a lead identical to the one under test and supplied with the same perturbing signal. The aim is to find out from the result of the comparison whether the screening is correct, doubtful or poor. Application to the evaluation of the quality of the screening of leads packaged in coils.
