Summary: | Carbonic esters are important as an extender for gasoline, an octane number improver and an organic solvent, and further as a substitute for phosgene used in the production of isocyanates, polycarbonates and intermediates of various agricultural chemicals and medicines. They can be efficiently produced according to this invention by reacting an alcohol with carbon monoxide and oxygen in the presence of a catalyst comprising a tertiary organophosphorus compound having a phenyl or alkyl group and copper halide. |
