Summary:The subject invention concerns an improved method of enzyme immobilization using polysulfonium salts. Some of the polysulfonium salts, advantageously, can be used to both flocculate and crosslink microbiologically-produced enzyme or cellular materials containing the enzymes. In such instances, the immobilization process is highly cost-efficient. The replacement of the prior art crosslinker of choice, glutaraldehyde, with a polysulfonium salt results in greater retention of enzyme activity during the immobilization process.
