Summary:1. Method for the separation of plasma or serum out of whole blood, by the sample of whole blood being applied to a separating layer consisting of an absorbent matrix which is impregnated with lectin, characterised in that, after a preset time, the plasma or serum which has formed is transferred, by application of a pressure, into further layers impregnated with reagents, the volume of the sample of whole blood which is to be separated being a maximum of 50% of the volume absorbable by the separating layer.
