Process for the preparation of phenylacetates which are fluorinated at the aromatic nucleus and/or in a side-chain, characterized in that fluorinated beta,beta,beta-trichloroethylbenzenes of the formula see diagramm : EP0123187,P7,F3 in which R1 represents one of the groups -OCF3 , -OCHF2 , -SCF3 , -SCHF2 , -CH2 -CF3 , CH2 -CH2 -CH3 , -CF(CF3 )2 , OCF2 -CHFCl, -SCF2 -CHFCl, -OCF2 -CF2- H or -SCF2 -CF2 H and R2 represents hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, nitro or one of the groups stated for R1 , or R1 and R2 together represent one of the groups -O-CF2 -O-, -O-CF2 -CF2 -O-, -O-CF2 -CHF-O-, -O-CF2 -CFCl-O-, -O-CF2 -CH2 -O- or -O-CF2 -O-CF2 - are reacted with an alcoholate and then with an acid.
