Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft neue Zinkferrite, die neben der Komponente ZnFe2O4 das Komponentensystem Al2O3 und P2O5 enthalten. Weiterhin sind Verfahren zur Herstellung und der Verwendung dieser Pigmente Gegenstand der Anmeldung. Die erfindungsgemäßen Pigmente weisen Halogengehalte von kleiner 30 ppm auf. A zinc ferrite pigment comprising, by weight, about 99.8 to 90% of ZnFe2O4 and about 0.2 to 10% of the component system (1-x)Al2O3 and xP2O5 wherein 0<x<1 is produced by calcining a suitable mixture of compounds. The resulting pigments are of high color quality and are substantially halogen-free, rendering them especially useful industrially even as anti-corrosion pigments.
