Summary:Methods of preparing supported multimetallic and unimetallic catalysts of improved activity having uniform metals distribution are provided. Such methods involve saturating the catalyst support with carbon dioxide prior to impregnation with the desired metal or metals. Multimetallic catalysts encompassed by the invention comprise a platinum group metal with one or more metals from Groups VIIIA, VIIA and IVB of the Periodic Chart. Unimetallic catalysts embraced by the invention comprise a metal selected from ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, osmium, iridium, manganese, technetium and rhenium.
