Summary:1488574 Installation for plant cultivation COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 7 Jan 1975 [21 Jan 1974 23 Dec 1974] 620/75 Heading A1E An installation for heating or cooling soil for plant cultivation therein comprises an elongated, thin-walled, imperforate, flat, flexible, rubber or plastics hose 2 resting on the soil 6, and a constant-level feed-tank 3, to supply hot or cold water 8 to hose 2. The hose 2 is either a single large flattened tube, which may have its walls fused here and there, and may have openings 10, with welded sides, through which plants grow so as to be simultaneously heated and mulched, or may have a hollow bead 52, Fig. 9, for trapping released gas, or the hose may comprise several smaller parallel ducts, Fig. 8. Several hoses may be arranged in parallel and are interconnected by manifolds 16, 18, the latter manifold enabling recycling of liquid 8. Hot industrial waste water or a heat pump 20 supplies water at 25‹-45‹C to feed-tank 3 which maintains a low, 10 cm., head of water. The installation may be used in greenhouses and may be used for air-conditioning to cool during the day by using a valve system to by-pass the heat-pump and to heat during the night.
