Summary:1451747 Separation of skim milk from milk or cream ALFA LAVAL AB 7 Feb 1975 [7 March 1974] 5342/75 Heading BID [Also in Division A2] Milk or cream is separated into a skim milk fraction and a cream enriched fraction by passing it at 0.5 m/sec or more over a filter 4, the majority of whose pores have a diameter of 0.2 to 10 Ám, while maintaining a pressure drop of at least 0.2 kp/cm2 across the filter, and recycling a major part of the cream enriched fraction. The milk enters the apparatus at 8, the cream enriched fraction exits at 9a, and the skim milk exits at 9b. The filter may be made from porous plastics and supported by a sintered stainless steel plate 7. The preferred maximum flow rate of milk is 20 m/sec, and the maximum pressure drop 3 kp/cm2.
