Summary:Indole derivs. of formula (I) and their salts and solvates are new (where R1 is H, 1-6C alkyl or 3-6C alkenyl; R2 is H, 1-3C alkyl, 3-6C alkenyl, aryl, aralkyl or 5-7C cycloalkyl; R3 is H or 1-3C alkyl; R4 and R5 are H, 1-3C alkyl or propenyl, or R4+R5 is aralkylidene; A is 2-3C alkylene opt. mono- or disubstd. by 1-3C alkyl). (I) produce selective contraction of the carotid artery and are thus useful for treatment of migraine. Effective unit doses are 0.1-100 mg, e.g. given 1-4 times a day. 4 Cpds. (I) are specifically claimed including 3-(2-aminoethyl)-N-methyl-1H-indole 5-methanesulphonamide (Ia).
