Summary:1390617 Determination of Australia antigen PFIZER Ltd 31 July 1972 [31 July 1971] 36097/71 Heading G1B A diagnostic reagent for Australia antigen or the anti-body thereto comprises an aqueous suspension of finely-divided synthetic resin particles of substantially uniform shape and size coated with the anti-body specific to Australia antigen, or with Australia antigen itself, respectively. In example polystyrene particles of diameter 0.16 micron are used: particles of acrylic resins are also mentioned. In use the water particles are mixed with a blood sample; a positive result is indicated by agglutination; alternatively the test sample may be mixed with a solution containing antigen and then with the reagent for antigen, in which case failure to agglutinate is a positive result (showing that antibodies in the test sample have reacted with the antigen in the solution.
