Summary:The monitoring device has a number of cabinets between its terminal units, each with a generator for each of a number of lines. Each cabinet has an error indicator which receives pulse trains transmitted over one of the lines, which are handled by the regenerator, and the error indicator generates a signalling pulse when a section of the pulse train contains at least one error. One of the terminal units has an analyser which, on reception of signalling pulses, tests the functioning of the line. The device also has addressing units which connect a regenerator selected by an address to the error indicator in the corresponding cabinet, and the error indicator to the analyser.
