Summary:Blocks of solid adhesive to be released by a dispenser uses local heating and pneumatic pressure to discharge melt adhesive via a nozzle, where (i) the block is shaped to provide >=1 annular or spiral rib around the block, or (ii) the upstream end of the block is cut to provide a divergent flange so that the discharge pressure distends the rear of the block to maintain a sliding seal with the dispenser body or (iii) the rear end of the block is fitted with a dilatant elastic cap. Use of the adhesive charge to establish the ejection pressure seal eliminates need for a close tolerance plunger inside the dispenser body or cartridge, thus reducing cost.
