Summary:A self cleaning rotary separator has a set of plates one above the other and containing a charge of slurry, with a level monitoring arrangement with two spaced apart light guide bundles (5, 5a) near the level of the charge, with their ends directed outwards towards a light source (7) and a light receiving device (8), and their other ends located above the maximum limit (4) of the charger and the separating medium, so that if this limit is reached, the beam is interrupted, so that an alarm device or mechanism can be actuated.
