1400756 Polyurethane adhesive solutions BAYER AG 8 Dec 1972 [10 Dec 1971] 56886/72 Heading C3R [Also in Division B5] An adhesive comprises a solution of a hydroxypolyurethane in a polar solvent, the hydroxy polyurethane having a M.W. above 30,000 and being prepared by reacting an organic diisocyanate, a dihydroxy polycarbonate or polyester with a M.W. above 1250 and a chain lengthening agent which is a mixture of at least two diols which have a M.W. of 62 to 300, the quantity of each diol used being 0À1 to 1À0 mol per mol of polycarbonate or polyester. Most preferably, the NCO/OH ratio is 0À9 to 0À999, the mixture of diols comprise 0À2 to 0À6 mol of each diol per mol of polycarbonate or polyester and the total diol quantity is up to 2 mol per mol of polycarbonate or polyester. The process may be carried out in the presence of a solvent. Conventional polycarbonates, polyesters and diisocyanates are used. The diols may be alkane diols or ester or ether diols, e.g. bis-2- hydroxyethylterephthalate and hydroquinonebis - 2 - hydroxy ethylether. The resulting hydroxypolyurethanes may be dissolved in solvents such as acetone or methyl ethyl ketone.
