Summary:The mechanism to lock the door of a domestic appliance, and especially a cooking oven, has a ratchet (14) which is pressed by a spring force against a corresponding catch (80) to lock them together. The ratchet is at the appliance housing and the catch is at the appliance door, or vice versa. A slide (28), which can be moved between the ratchet and the catch, releases the ratchet in one position, lifts it clear in a second position and, in a third setting, is kept out of action.
