Summary: | If not already fitted, U-profiled torsions bars, interconnecting wheel hubs (5,6;7,8) and supported in chassis bearings (11,12), are provided front and rear (9,10). Bar torsions are measured by e.g. by bridge-connected strain gauges (13,14) fixed directly, or in sleeves fixed to the bars. Output signals pass to a central processing unit (20). To take account of different front and rear suspension characteristics, an experimentally determined correction is applied to one signal. The difference between the signal values thus obtained, digitised, is sampled e.g. once a second, and a rolling average, spanning e.g. 60 values, is produced. Above a set threshold an alarm (30) is given. Using a speed sensor, the controller suppresses anomalies detected below e.g. 5 km/n. |
