Summary:The electron-emitting region (5) of an electron-emitting device (1-7) is formed by arranging a film (7) of an organic substance connecting high and low potential side members (2,3;4) on a substrate (1), carbonising the organic substance by applying a voltage between the high and low potential side members to carbonise the film and form a fissure or fissures in the carbonised film. The foregoing method of manufacturing an electron-emitting device has application to the manufacture of an electron source having a plurality of electron-emitting devices, and further to the manufacture of an image-forming device comprising such an electron source and an image-forming member arranged in an envelope.
