Summary:A fuel pump, which is fitted in a fuel tank, is proposed, which can be easily installed and reduces vibrations which are generated by the fuel pump. The fuel pumped by one pump section (20) flows through a filter (24) for the retention of foreign bodies. Thereafter the fuel flows from a passage (26) by way of an opening section (29a) in a cap (29) into a recess (31) and a second passage (32). The fuel in the second passage (32) lifts a non-return valve (43) and flows into a recess (51). From there the fuel flows by way of a third passage (52) to a discharge line (11), whereupon it is led to the outside of the fuel tank. A ball (34) is arranged so that it is capable of moving according to the fuel pressure within a section (33b) of larger diameter, in order to adjust the fuel pressure which is required for injection. When the pumping sequence is interrupted, the fuel pressure falls to zero, the ball (34) being pressed on a valve seat (36) by the force of a compression spring (35). The head (43b) of the non-return valve (43) is hereupon pressed on a valve seat (44) in order to close off the passage. The residual fuel pressure can be maintained downstream of the recess (51).
