Summary:In the prodn. of polyhydroxyalkanoates (I) in a prokaryotic host, contg. the genes required for (I) synthesis, by culturing on a medium under appropriate conditions, the new features are that the host contains at least one copy of a (I)-synthase gene (II) under increased expression control and the medium is practically free of glucose. Also new are: (1) recombinant DNA (III) contg. (II) under increased expression control; (2) recombinant vectors contg. at least one copy of (III); and (3) prokaryotic cells contg. (III) or these vectors.
