Rotational driven gear
A housing (1) contains a set of two identical gear wheels on two shafts (3,4) one driving (3) and one driven (4). The shafts drive cranks (8,9) with crankpins (10,11) on their end connected to a pantograph mechanism (17) such that the centres (12,14) of the crankpins are on a straight line with the...

Summary: | A housing (1) contains a set of two identical gear wheels on two shafts (3,4) one driving (3) and one driven (4). The shafts drive cranks (8,9) with crankpins (10,11) on their end connected to a pantograph mechanism (17) such that the centres (12,14) of the crankpins are on a straight line with the centre (24) of a hole (25) on the free moving end (26) of the pantograph. The construction allows the position of the crankpin near to the hole to be anywhere on that line between the hole and the far crankpin. The point (24) will move on a exact ellipse if the shaft (5) is rotated. The point (24) will describe a straight line, i.e. an ellipse with short axis approaching zero, if the ratio of the distance between centre (12) of near crankpin and centre (13) of lower shaft to the distance between centre (12) of near crankpin and centre (13) of lower shaft to the distance between centre (14) of far crankpin and centre (15) of upper shaft equals the ratio of the distance between centre of hole and centre of near crankpin to the distance between centre of hole and centre of far crankpin. To allow for differently shaped ellipses the length of one of the cranks, the angular position of the cranks to each other and the position of the hole on the free end of the pantograph mechanism can be made variable but fixed for one configuration. Seals (27,28,29) can be fitted between the shafts and the housing to protect the internal parts from dust, grease etc. |
