Summary:A probe for taking ground samples is described, which has an outer probe tube and, arranged coaxially therein, a core tube for holding the ground sample. The probe is furthermore provided with a closure piece having a ram tip, which closure piece is provided with a locking device which cooperates with the probe tube and can be released by remote control. In a blocking position, the locking device holds the closure piece on the front lower end of the probe tube, whereas, in a release position of the locking device, the closure piece is freely displaceable in the probe tube. The probe tube is closed off above the core tube in gas-tight and liquid-tight fashion by a sealing flange. The sealing flange has a surge valve, by means of which an overpressure which builds up during upwards displacement of the locking device in the probe tube can be avoided.
