Summary: | A solar collector consists of a hollow radiation absorber through which an energy-carrying medium (1) flows. The absorber is made from several porous layers of material (2) of different spectral transmissivity. The layers are arranged so that the outside one admits preferentially the longer wavelength infra-red radiation, and each succeeding one admits a shorter wavelength. The flow of the medium is in the direction of increasing temperature gradient. Apart from the entry and outlet spaces (3, 4) for the medium, the multi-layer absorber occupies the full volume of the collector almost completely. The ability of the layers to be pigmented can be adjusted according to the required absorption properties. Suitable materials for the layers are glass granulates and sedimented glass sand. ADVANTAGE - Increased solar energy transmission to fluid medium. |
