Oil-in-water emulsion additive for concrete - contg. ethoxylated nonyl phenol esters, satd. fatty acid amphoteric cpd., glycol and soap

Additive comprises an oil-in-water emulsion contg.: (a) in the oil phase, (i) 10-55% of an unsatd. fatty acid ester, (ii) 1-15% of an ethoxylated 6-12 alkylphenol and (iii) 1-5% of an ester of an aliphatic carboxylic acid and a monool, diol or triol; and (b) in the water phase, (iv) 0.1-5% of a satd...

Summary:Additive comprises an oil-in-water emulsion contg.: (a) in the oil phase, (i) 10-55% of an unsatd. fatty acid ester, (ii) 1-15% of an ethoxylated 6-12 alkylphenol and (iii) 1-5% of an ester of an aliphatic carboxylic acid and a monool, diol or triol; and (b) in the water phase, (iv) 0.1-5% of a satd. 12-30C fatty acid, (v) 0.1-1% of an amphoteric cpd. with at least 1 amino gp. and at least 1 acid gp., (vi) 2-10% of a glycol and (vii) 0.1-2% of a soap. Pref. compsn. includes (a)(i) 10-55% (15-30%) of a 4-15C alkyl or alkylene glycol oleate, (ii) 3-15% (5-10%) of an ethoxylated nonylphenol with 2-4 EO and (iii) 2-5% of an ester with a total of 8-46C. The amphoteric cpd. (b) (v) is a coco alkyl-beta-aminopropionic acid. The emulsion contains 0.6-4% of a satd. fatty acid and of a soap. The oil phase forms 15-65 (20-35) wt.% of the emulsion, and the water content of the emulsion is 20-80 (50-75) wt.%. USE/ADVANTAGE - Steel reinforcement in concrete is protected against corrosion by addn. of the additive to the concrete mixt. before casting. A concrete mixt. contg. the additive is suitable for steel reinforcement. The steel is protected against corrosion by chlorides, e.g. by penetration of deicing chemicals or seawater into the concrete. The additive compsn. is stable under normal temp. variations
