To dispose of an emulsion contg. water and oil, esp. metal-working coolant fluids, the water is evaporated under environmentally sound conditions. Pref., the emulsion is applied to an absorbent material, especially felting, as an evapn. carrier to be subjected to ambient air. After the water has been evaporated, the felting is compressed and the extracted liq. is rturned to the emulsion container and the carrier is immersed in it until the contents have reached a given oil concn. to be removed for disposal. The carrier is compressed after the set oil concn. has been achieved, and the extracted fluid is collected and disposed of through an oil separator. ADVANTAGE - The method is simple and cost-effective and, at the same time, does not damage the environment.
