Summary:Control of the sexual cycle of water frogs (Rana sp.) for leaf frogs (Hyla sp.) comprises treating the frogs of both sexes (a) with follicle stimulating hormone (FSM) and luteinising hormone (LH) as one or two separate injections, then (b) when the animals characteristic mating colour has appeared, with a further dose of FSH and LH, plus chorionic gonadotropin (CG) in 1, 2 or 3 injections. Also new are compsns. for this process. USE/ADVANTAGE - Treatment is used in artificial breeding programmes and overcomes the limitation that these frogs normally mate only once after capture, i.e. it allows 4 matings per yr. without any adverse effects on health. The legs of these frogs are a luxury food and the offspring of treated parents contain no hormone residues.
