Summary:The pressure source (35) has a plunger piston (46) which immerses in a cylinder (47) filled with brake fluid and is connected to a geared rack (58). For propelling the plunger piston (46) an electric drive motor (60) is provided which by way of a toothed gearing (61) drives a pinion (59) meshing with the toothed rack. A helical spring (76), on one side engaging on the pinion shaft (66) and on the other supported on the pressure source housing (39) serves for return of the plunger piston (46). The use of the helical spring (76) makes it possible to achieve a short overall axial length of the pressure source (35). A free wheeling mechanism (68) is also provided in the drive train between the motor (60) and the toothed rack (58). This causes disconnection of the toothed gearing (61) and drive motor (60) when the toothed rack (58) at the end of the return stroke strikes a stop (43) on the pressure source housing (39). In this way damage to the gearing (61) and motor (60) is prevented. The pressure source (35) is provided in a hydraulic vehicle brake system with a device for limiting drive slip.
