Summary:In a fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines, in which the pump piston sleeve (3) has at least one combined intake and spill bore (13), which is closed off on commencement of delivery by an upper control edge (12) of the pump piston (9) and, on termination of delivery, is opened by a lower control edge (14) of the pump piston (9), the axis (22) of the intake and spill bore (13) includes with the radius (25) to the axis (21) of the pump piston (9) an angle ( alpha St, beta St) which differs from 0 DEG . The axis (22) of the intake and spill bore (13), starting from its opening in the cylinder bore, runs outwards at an angle ( alpha St) in the direction (24) of motion of the pump piston (9) during the compression stroke and/or is at an acute angle ( beta St) with the radius in a plane normal to the pump piston axis (21), thus reducing the risk of cavitation phenomena in the region of the intake and spill bore.
