Summary: | The aim of the invention is to propose a process for removing hydrogen sulphide without complex equipment and inexpensively. The object underlying the invention is to remove the hydrogen sulphide from industrial gases in a single-stage process. According to the invention the object is achieved by absorbing the hydrogen sulphide-containing gas together with sulphur dioxide in the solvent N-methyl- epsilon -caprolactam, as a result of the catalytic action of the solvent, the Claus reaction proceding at room temperature with formation of coarsely crystalline sulphur which can be easily separated off mechanically from the suspension of sulphur and solvent. |
