Summary:A viscosity measuring device has a pair of externally toothed disks A, B arranged alongside one another, but secured one in relation to each of the two ends of a driving shaft the viscosity related torque on which is to be measured as a drum mounted thereon rotates in the liquid whose viscosity is to be measured, changes in the viscosity giving rise to changes in the torque which give rise to changes in relative angular displacement of the disks which are detected optically using a light beam transmitted through the toothed disks. According to the invention, the circumferential width of the teeth 120 of one of these two disks is smaller than the opening existing between the adjacent teeth 110 of the other disk and at all torque values each smaller tooth 120 lies in register somewhere within its associated opening, so that for measurement purposes the displacement D between like edges of the optical signal C corresponding to the respective teeth 110, 120 (e.g. the respective leading edges) can be measured.
