Process for the preparation of 1-carbamoyl-3-methylpyrazole

The invention relates to a process for the preparation of 1-carbamoyl-3-methylpyrazole (CMP) from the reactants 3(5)-methylpyrazole (MP) and alkali metal cyanate in the presence of acid. CMP is an effective agent for inhibiting the nitrification of ammonium nitrogen in cultivated soils. The reaction...

Summary:The invention relates to a process for the preparation of 1-carbamoyl-3-methylpyrazole (CMP) from the reactants 3(5)-methylpyrazole (MP) and alkali metal cyanate in the presence of acid. CMP is an effective agent for inhibiting the nitrification of ammonium nitrogen in cultivated soils. The reaction is not carried out, as usual, in the acidic range, but in a pH range of 10-7. This gives CMP suspensions which have very good filtering properties and high CMP yields. The alkali metal salt of the acid used, which is formed as a by-product, is separated off or coprecipitated together with the CMP and dried.
