Summary: | A plate heat exchanger for liquid media comprises flow channels defined between spaced plates, the plates having profiles to impart a sinuous form of the channels. Thus each channel length portion (1d) is bounded at each side by two oppositely directed curves (12a, b; 13a, b) which either are joined by straight portions (14a, b), as shown, or which merge into each other (Fig 1, not shown). The spacing of the plates or said spacing and the length of the straight portions (14a, b) is so selected that the flow trajectories (17, 18) which are associated with the streamlines through said channel portion (1d) and which intersect the two most remote transitions (15a, 16b) between curved and straight portions in said channel portion (1d), or the two transitions between the curved portions of said channel portion (Fig 1), also intersect the channel axis (19) at such points (20, 21) that the length of the axis between the latter points of intersection is substantially half the length of the axis (19) in the channel portion (1d). |
