Summary: | A process for the preparation of tertiary N,N-dimethylamines by reaction of primary amines with formaldehyde and hydrogen as starting substances under pressure and at elevated temperature on a nickel- containing hydrogenation catalyst in the liquid phase. The hydrogenation catalyst is suspended in a solvent and the nickel concentration is 0.1 to 10% by weight relative to primary amine to be employed. The starting substances are introduced into the catalyst suspension separately from one another, but simultaneously, at 80 to 150 DEG C and 1 to 15 MPa with mixing, and reacted to give tertiary N,N-dimethylamines in one reaction step. |
