Methyl carboxylates are prepared by passing carboxylic acid and methanol at temperatures above the boiling point of the resulting ester, at least at about 110 DEG C, into a mixture comprising an acid catalyst and an inert heat-transfer medium which is liquid at the reaction temperature.
