Summary: | The invention relates to a process for the preparation of unsaturated polyester resins having good styrene compatibility from maleic acid, phthalic acid, propylene glycol and dipropylene glycol with a molar maleic acid: phthalic acid ratio of between 1:0.05 and 1:0.45 and with a molar maleic acid: dipropylene glycol ratio of from 1:0.05 to 1:0.6, where, in a first step, phthalic acid or phthalic anhydride is esterified by means of an excess of glycols, and subsequently, in a second step, fumaric acid, maleic acid or maleic anhydride and any remaining glycols are added and esterified. The polyester resins can be used for the preparation of SMC and BMC formulations |
