Summary:The varistor (23) consists of a box-shaped ceramic body (24) which consists of varistor material and is provided at opposite ends with metal coatings (27, 28), which can be soldered, as electrodes, each of the opposite ends of the ceramic body (24) having a depression (25, 26) whose surface is covered by in each case one part (29, 31) of the metal coatings (27, 28), whose other part (30, 32) in each case is lengthened as far as the outer surface of the ceramic body (24), and the depth (40) of each of the two depressions (25, 26) is greater than the width (39) of the parts (30, 32) of the metal coatings (27, 28) on the outer surface of the ceramic body (24).
