Summary:The invention relates to a diagnostic X-ray unit having an image generating system (1 to 5) with X-ray emitter (5) and radiation receiver (4) as well as with a support table (6) for the patient. The adjustable components of the image generating system (1 to 5) are connected to transmitters (9) which report the respective position of these components to a computer (11). The computer (11) compares the respective position of the components of the image generating system (1 to 5) with an enveloping surface (8) mounted above the support table (6) and signals when one of the adjustable components touches the enveloping surface (8).
