Process for the preparation of N-methylphosphonic acid diesters of acrylamide or methacrylamide, from methylol compounds

The invention relates to the preparation of N-methylphosphonic acid diesters of (meth)acrylamides of the formula in which R1 is hydrogen or methyl, R2 is hydrogen or an optionally substituted C1-C4-alkyl radical or a C3-C4-alkenyl radical, R3 and R4 are identical or different radicals, such as pheny...

Summary:The invention relates to the preparation of N-methylphosphonic acid diesters of (meth)acrylamides of the formula in which R1 is hydrogen or methyl, R2 is hydrogen or an optionally substituted C1-C4-alkyl radical or a C3-C4-alkenyl radical, R3 and R4 are identical or different radicals, such as phenyl or optionally substituted alkyl groups having 1 to 4 C atoms, or alkylene radicals which form five- to seven-membered rings together with the oxygen atoms and the phosphorus atom, by reacting N-hydroxymethylamides of (meth)acrylic acid with tertiary phosphites, the reaction being carried out in the presence of catalytic amounts of metal compounds which are Lewis acids.
