Summary:The rail contacting device for axle counting systems for railway safety technology consists of a laser transmitter (LS) whose radiation is divided in two with the aid of an optical beam divider (OBT). One part of the radiation is guided via a sensor glass fibre (SG) which is attached with a predetermined length to a rail (S) in such a way that when one wheel of a vehicle passes a reversible change in length occurs. The other part of the radiation passes via a reference glass fibre (RG) which is not mechanically affected by the vehicle wheels (rail) to an optical beam combiner (OBK) which is additionally connected to the sensor glass fibre (SG). When vehicle wheels pass over it, an evaluation device (AG) which is connected to the beam combiner (OBK) outputs the pulses necessary for the axle counting device.
