Summary: | A filter cartridge for improving the quality of drinking water is composed of a vessel (10) provided with openings (18, 20) covered in the manner of a screen, which vessel is filled with a composition of ion exchanger resin and/or activated charcoal and a bacteriostatically active substance such as, in particular, silver in a dissociable form, through which composition the water to be treated is passed chiefly in the downwards direction. The filter cartridge has a collection space, leading from the vessel base (16), for a restricted amount of water. This collection space is formed inside a lower vessel part (14) abruptly expanding with respect to an upper part (12) of the vessel, which lower vessel part opens towards the top in the region of the expansion to form the outlet of the cartridge. This means that the water remaining in the collection space after completion of use is renewed with each additional start-up and cannot become stagnant. |
