Summary:The solubility of sparingly soluble organic compounds, which have "Zerewitinoff-active" hydrogen atoms bonded via a heteroatom and can thus be silylated, in those organic solvents which do not carry hydrogen atoms bonded via heteroatoms can be considerably improved by converting these compounds into corresponding silyl derivatives by silylation by means of trialkylsilyl cyanide - in particular by means of trimethylsilyl cyanide, (CH3)3Si-CN. The resulting mono- or polytrialkylsilyl derivatives are highly soluble in the usual inert solvents. The new process can be used, for example, with all alcohols, phenols, thiols, carboxylic acids, amines, amides, in particular with amino acids and carbohydrates, and in addition also with heterocyclic amines such as aminopyrimidines, aminotriazines and aminotriazinones.
