Summary: | The invention relates to a process for the fast production of silver images rich in high contrast by imagewise exposure of photographic silver halide material having a silver halide emulsion layer, in which the halide composition contains at least 80 mol% of silver chloride and the particle size of the silver halide is 0.4 mu m on average or less, a water-soluble rhodium salt having been incorporated in a quantity of 1 . 10<-6> mol or more per mole of silver at any desired stage of the preparation, provided that this is before the end of the first ripening step, and the emulsion layer or one of the other hydrophilic colloid layers also contains a compound of the general formula (I) with the substituents as indicated in Claim 1, and by developing the photographic materials prepared in this way by means of a developer containing 0.05 to 0.5 mol/l of a developer of the dihydroxybenzene type, 0 to 0.05 g/ml of an auxiliary developer, 0.25 mol/l or more of free sulphite ions, 20 mg/l or more of 5- or 6-nitroindazole and an alkaline agent for adjusting the pH to 10.5 or higher. |
