Summary:Arrangement for shipping and storing fuel rods of spent fuel elements with the aid of a cast iron or cast steel shielded shipping and storage container. The storage container has a receiving chamber set up to receive a multiplicity of fuel elements and in which there is located a basket insert having receiving shafts for the individual fuel elements. However, it is not fuel elements, but rather fuel rods which are inserted, specifically in a packing of maximum density. They are arranged directly in the receiving shafts. The basket insert is reduced to a lattice insert. In this way, a substantially larger number of fuel rods can be accommodated in the shielded shipping and storage container.
