Summary:The invention relates to a process and equipment for producing a synthesis gas consisting of hydrogen and carbon monoxide by gasification of carbonaceous materials, in particular coal, in an iron bath reactor. Synthesis gases which are produced by conventional processes must be subjected to extensive purification processes, for example a separation from sulphur dioxide, and, due to their unfavourable hydrogen/carbon monoxide molar ratio, cannot be further used directly. Utilising novel technical aspects and allowing in particular for economic points of view, however, the process according to the invention enables a synthesis gas to be produced which, by enrichment with additional hydrogen, for example from a high-temperature electrolysis, has a molar ratio of two mol of hydrogen to one mol of carbon monoxide and can therefore be used directly as a raw material for the methanol synthesis.
