The invention proceeds from a method for determining the consistency of mixed concrete, in particular in a mixer lorry (mixer conveyor, mixer truck). A test stirrer driven at constant speed is introduced into the mixed concrete and the test stirrer power is used as a measure of its consistency. The power is not measured, however, on the basis of the current consumption of the drive motor of the test stirrer but, on the contrary, a flow of concrete is generated with the test stirrer and guided towards or onto a test backing surface. The test backing surface deforms and its deformation is used as a measure of the consistency of the concrete. The invention also relates to devices for carrying out such a method. These have a test stirrer and a test backing surface, and the test backing surface may act as impact backing surface for the flow of concrete or as a support for a concrete cake formed therefrom.
