Summary:Soiled liq. is fed into the wall of an edge filter contg. a hollow cylindrical filter body made of laminae or wire coils and divided by a stellate core into compartments for filtrate. The core is rotatable by an external ratchet. Movable round the filter body is a scraper blade for removing deposited dirt. This scraper is surrounded by a U-shaped collector channel with spring-loaded sides which normally allows soiled liq. to pass through a gap, but closes this gap when one side of the U shapes into the recess(es) of one or more guide rings at the ends of the filter. The liq. flow then removes the accumulated dirt for discharge through a valve-controlled outlet. For filtration e.g. of lubricants in IC engines, wherein soil tends to cling to the scraper, and provides adequate flow to remove this soil. The filter may be in any position e.g. horizontal.
