Summary: | A semi-submersible with ballast cells to vary its draft, for use in conjunction with a crane for heavy loads, e.g. prefabricated modules for the assembly of offshore stations, is fitted in the working area of the crane with a hinged platform below water level. This platform acts as a support for a barge carrying the module which rests on it via elastomer cushions.S This enables the semi-submersible to remain stationed near the offshore station site and a number of barges are used for the transport from shore to the site. The utilisation factor of such an expensive semi-submersible is thus greatly improved. |
